What is Encaustic Art?
Encaustic art is a fascinating medium that involves using heated beeswax mixed with colored pigments. The wax is applied to a surface, typically wood or canvas, and can be guided with various tools and techniques to create rich textures and vibrant colors. This ancient art form allows for endless creativity, resulting in unique, luminous pieces that can evoke emotion and tell a story. Each encaustic painting I create reflects my journey, offering a glimpse into my experiences and artistic vision.
The word "encaustic" comes from the Greek "enkaustikos," meaning "to heat or burn in." This technique dates back to ancient times, showcasing the beauty and durability of the medium. While encaustic painting fell out of favor during the Middle Ages as oil painting emerged, the 20th century saw a revival, with artists welcoming its unique characteristics and ability to fuse painting with collage and sculpture.
In my work, I strive to honor this rich tradition while exploring the endless possibilities of encaustic art. Each creation is a reflection of my passion for this medium, with its layered textures and luminous colors offering a tactile experience that is truly one-of-a-kind.
