The Art of Encaustic: Where Tradition Meets Innovation
🐝🌳 What Is Encaustic Art?
Encaustic art is a captivating medium created with heated beeswax, damar resin (a natural tree sap), and color pigments. The molten wax is applied to surfaces such as wood or canvas and shaped with heat tools and brushes to build rich layers, vibrant color, and mesmerizing texture. The result is a luminous, one-of-a-kind work that invites emotion, depth, and reflection.
The word encaustic comes from the Greek enkaustikos, meaning “to heat or burn in.” This ancient technique dates back thousands of years, admired for its durability and timeless beauty. Though it faded during the rise of oil painting in the Middle Ages, encaustic art reemerged in the 20th century as artists rediscovered its expressive potential — blending painting, collage, and sculpture in new ways.
In my own work, I honor this ancient tradition while exploring its modern possibilities. Each piece reflects my journey with color, light, and emotion — a dance between control and flow, where wax becomes a language of healing and transformation.
