Artist Story
I am a contemporary self-taught, encaustic artist known for breathing new life into this ancient wax medium. Based in New Hampshire, I have developed an innovative approach to working with wax, creating bold, vibrant pieces that challenge conventional techniques.
Journey
The encaustic journey began in 2013 following a diagnosis of a traumatic brain injury, later deepening through experiences, challenges, and adaptations to chronic illnesses and grief. These obstacles led me to discover the transformative power of working with wax as a creative outlet and a healing practice.
A lifelong love for art and design has blossomed into a vibrant small art business, serving incredible clients looking to fill their lives with color, joy, and inspiration.
I started with crayons, a hairdryer, and a fork—an unconventional but playful introduction to the medium. This early exploration sparked a love for wax's texture and depth, leading me to create my encaustic paints using beeswax, damar resin, and pigments. This process has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to fine-tune my materials to match my artistic vision. There is immense joy in overseeing the entire creative journey, from mixing raw materials to completing a finished piece.
Originally from Peabody, Massachusetts, I come from a long line of artists and entrepreneurs. My artistic roots trace back to childhood memories in my grandmother's ceramic studio.
It was through adapting to life with disabilities that I developed my unique encaustic techniques. Inspired by Vincent van Gogh's bold color and movement and Frida Kahlo's raw emotional storytelling, I pour my lived experiences into every piece. My innovative approach challenges traditional methods while honoring my body's capabilities.
Mission & Vision
As a woman art entrepreneur, I aim to uplift and brighten lives through art and design. I create products that reflect individuality and a love for life, bringing my clients color, joy, and inspiration.
Process and Creative Space
At the studio at Lane House Arts Center, each painting serves as an artistic expression and personal meditation. I skillfully guide molten wax through heated tools, blending and blooming into mesmerizing patterns that reflect a profound connection to color and emotion. This creative process allows me to immerse myself fully, with each painting reflecting my inner world—blending emotion, intuition, and technique into a singular piece.
Through my work, I've discovered how physical challenges can open doors to unexpected creative possibilities, allowing me to create beyond traditional encaustic techniques. My artistic vision extends to designer textiles, jewelry, home décor, and fine art prints. I'm also excited to share that my first book, 'Mom's Journey Home', combining my artwork with inspirational poetry, is upcoming.
Beyond the Studio
Beyond my artistic practice, I find inspiration in designing, cooking, writing poetry, singing, playing the keyboard, and reading. These diverse interests, along with the support of my loved ones, continue to enrich my creative spirit and artwork. As a self-taught artist, I welcome continuous learning and experimentation, constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible with encaustic techniques.
