š¦ Wings I Leave Behind: How Art, Breath & Presence Became My Healing
I paint hope onto canvas and release it into the world.
I keep showing upābecause I know what itās like to crave beauty when everything feels broken.
To reach for color when the world turns gray.
To need one gentle reminder:
Youāre not alone.
šØ A Healing That Found Me
My creative journey began through art therapyānot as a career path, but as a lifeline.
Years ago, after a traumatic brain injury, I was introduced to art therapy as a way to process, reconnect, and find calm in the chaos.
During one of those early sessions, I melted crayons with a hairdryer and used a fork to guide themādoing whatever I could to feel color move across the canvas.
It wasnāt about making something beautiful.
It was about surviving the moment.
In the years that followed, I faced a complex mix of chronic illness, personal grief, and deep lossāexperiences that reshaped everything I believed about healing.
But that moment with the crayons, the hairdryer, and the forkāthat spark of expressionāplanted a seed.
It reminded me that healing doesnāt always begin with words.
Sometimes it begins with color, movement, and the courage to feel again.
That was the beginning of everything.
And unknowingly, thatās where my path as an artist was born.
šÆ Art, Breath & Energy
From those early moments, I followed the path of healing wherever it led me:
Art. Color. Wax. Light.
And eventually, breath.
There were days I could barely moveā
But I could still breathe.
So I met each moment with breath first.
Gentle. Slow. Honest.
The inhale became an invitation.
The exhale, a release.
Breath became the bridge between chaos and calm, body and spirit, thought and stillnessā
And it began to weave its way into my creative process.
š The Three Principles
Along this journey, I was introduced to the Three Principles:
Mind, Consciousness, and Thought.
This understanding shifted everything.
I began to see that healing doesnāt come from force or effort,
but from insightā
from remembering the peace that already lives within.
Thoughts come and go.
Feelings rise and fall.
But underneath it all, we are whole.
The more I surrendered to this truth,
the more naturally my creativity flowed.
I no longer needed to control what emergedā
I just needed to listen.
šæ Qi Gong: Returning to the Body
As I continued healing, I discovered another sacred practice: Qi Gong.
Its gentle, meditative movements helped me reconnect with my body in a completely new way.
Qi Gong reminded me I could still moveāeven when I felt weak.
It taught me to be patient, to move with breath, and to honor my energy instead of overriding it.
It wasnāt about striving.
It was about allowing.
It became another doorway home.
š Why I Still Create
I create for:
The person who needs comfort,
the day that needs beauty,
the hour when hope feels far away.
My art may begin with meā
But itās meant to meet you where you are at.
Whether itās a painting, a pendant, or a poem,
I want it to remind you of your light.
Your strength.
Your still-here-ness.
š¦ Wings I Leave Behind
I donāt always have the right wordsā
but color speaks for me.
It reaches the places words canāt go.
I create to feel,
to remember,
to breathe through the ache
and into the light.
I share because I know
what it feels like
to carry your story alone.
And I want you to knowā
Youāre not.
My art may begin with me,
but itās meant
to meet you
where you are.
For the moment, you need comfort.
For the day, you need beauty.
For the hour when hope feels far away.
Art is how I say,
Iām still here.
And so are you.
And thisā
is the legacy I leave in color.
š With love and light,
Alisa Marie
